2 tips for you

I have learned 2 pieces of obvious information first hand this past
week.

First, don't crash your motorcycle

Second, if you do decide to crash your bike, wear protective pants

Last thursday afternoon the weather was beautiful so I took my friend
for a Motorcycle ride. I wound up hitting a piece of steel rod laying
in the rod and went down at about 50mph. Fortunately neither of us
were hurt bad and were able to walk away from it.

The bike on the other hand took quite a hit. All the damage is
limited to plastic, but its going to run between $1,500 and $2,000 to
get it fixed.

At least Jen and I are ok. The bike is a machine and can be repaired

Got an Apartment

Well, Jeremy and I got an apartment. It ain't huge, but its pretty nice.

Jeremy did a signal test and we can get Broadband internet!!

Now the fun part of getting moved in...

hmm, its been awhile

well, I have been busy.

lets see if I can summarize this past couple weeks:

helping with Revelation Seminars: boring
taking tests: not fun
climbing ropes with pathfinders: woot!
work: its ok
dad bought a Land Cruiser: woot!
planning for Acrofest Video: busy
work: yep still here
sent some letters to the bro: finally

thats pretty much it.

Arg, I'm a pirate!

My pirate name is:

Dirty John Flint

You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from fidius.org.

OK, so today is REALLY boring at work...if you hadn't guessed

San Antonio

This past weekend we took the bikes down to San Antonio. Had a great
time once we got down there. The whole trip down rained on us. Let me
tell you wind and rain and an air temp of ~48 is COLD!!

Of course we went through all the missions down there and took lots
of pictures.

Went to the McNay Art Museum and walked through there. Art is OK, but
nothing wonderful, some of that stuff is stupid. I should be an
artist, its not like they actually do much of anything.

Oh, forgot to mention that I accidently wheelied my bike in SA.
Messing with the clutch as I didn't trust the pavement and up she
came. Fun but I will leave it down on the street. Leave that wheeling
stuff for the dirt.

Spam on blogs?

So I was just looking at my blog and noticed that I had a few
comments. Well it turns out that these comments amount to something
like this: "Hey, your blog is great. check out my site"

Why is there spam on my blog??

All of this is from people that I don't know.

GRRR!! as if spam in email wasn't enough

If you have the chance: Don't

I wound up riding home in that wonderful little thunderstorm we had
last night. It was not a lot of fun.

So if you have the chance to ride in the pouring rain, don't its
really not that much fun.

The good news is that the hard bags on the bike stayed nice and dry
on the inside and the tires (Michelin Pilot Roads) felt well planted
the whole way home.

Got the bags put on

Sunday I spent about 3hrs putting the panniers on the side of the
bike. They look nice, but man are they a pain in the butt to put on.
It didn't help that the instructions are not much clearer then mud.

They're Here!!

My mom just called and my Saddlebags just came in!

Maybe I will put them on over lunch

General updates

Jennifer is getting a lot more from her Insurance company then she
was expecting. (It still isn't enough, but much better then expected)

Jen's parents live near the coast and so they are headed this way to
avoid Rita.

My Saddlebags have landed in Fort Worth so they may be in tomorrow!

The comm system should be showing up soon too! This could be a fun
weekend unless Rita messes up the weather too much.

Well, that one went away

That ST1300 the I referred to earlier was sold as soon as I looked
at it.

I think that I would like try a ST but nobody wants to give me a test
ride. I am going up to Honda West in Ft Worth to have a test-sit and
see what I think.

I can get a brand new ST for $12,000 in North Oklahoma, but its a 5hr
drive. but for nearly $2,000 its worth the trip. I will try to talk
Honda West down.

What to do, what to do

So I really like my VFR but I keep wondering if I would rather have a
ST1300. Well I accidently ran across a ad for a 2003 ST1300 with
4200mi, an extended warranty that expires in 2010 and a custom seat.
Oh this bike is a beautiful Silver.

I still owe on my VFR and I just ordered the hard bags for it too. :(

Really don't know what to do about this. I would like to try a ST
before I make the jump, but the Honda dealers don't do demo rides. :(

I am just wondering if I am going miss the power/handeling of the VFR.

Guess I will pray about it and go from there.

She's OK

Had a bunch of friends over to wakeboard at my house Friday
afternoon. They all hung around till ~10:00pm then headed home. On
her way home Jennifer lost control of her car and rolled it.

She faired well as she had her seat belt on and the Airbags deployed.
Other then being sore I think she is OK.

Unfortunately her car is totaled. She did have full coverage on her
insurance on it, but since it was a '98 model it wasn't worth much.

Please keep the process of getting insurance and a new car
straightened out in your prayers.

Talked with the bro

When I got home last night my mom was on the phone with Larry. so I
joined them and talked with him for a while. I was good to hear from
him.

Sounds like he is doing ok, but he roommate isn't as good as he could
be. Guess he will get him straightened out sooner or later (hope sooner)

as always, please keep him in your prayers

Man, I want one of these

I am setting up a G5 for the SIFE department and while I am waiting
for them to get me the software, I have gotten to play with it.

This is the "slow" dual 2.0Ghz model and it completely blows the
doors off of nearly anything that I have used. (The dual 2.5Ghz's are
a little quicker)

Here's the Specs:
Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 PPc Processors
1.0GB Ram
250gb SATA HD
16x Dual Layer dvd burner

if you want to know the rest of the picky specs then you can go see
Apple.com

Does anyone have an extra $3000 so I can get one?

Crash Update

I got a little more information last night. Jerrie Mae was driving
with her grandmother when the accident happened. Their car was struck
on the passenger side where grandma was sitting.

Jerrie is ok and was released from the hospital yesterday evening.

Grandma on the other hand didn't fair so well. She has a small bleed
in the brain but that seems to be healing ok. She has several broken
ribs, her left arm is broken and she has something else wrong with
her lungs that I can't remember.

Please keep them and their family in your prayers

Monday, September 05, 2005

Pray for them

A friend of mine was in a car accident today and is in the Hospital.
Her grandma is also in the hospital, though I am not sure if the
reasons are the same.

Please keep them in your prayers

Interesting Discussion

I ran across this blog from a gentleman in the Dallas area.

There is quite a discussion that follow this particular post.

And now for the link: Headcheese Lane-Splitting discussion

Phew, glad thats over

We managed to make it through Registration. Now I have the fun task of catching up with everything that broke during registration and couldn't get it fixed.

Have I ever mentioned how annoying viruses are? They keep messing with our network.

Registration is not fun

This weekend is Registration. We started on Friday with all of the
new freshman and student workers. That was a nightmare to be sure.
Sunday everyone else registered, and it wasn't quite as bad but the
Student finance backed up quite a bit.

Monday is Sunday version 2. Not too bad but Stu Fin is backed out the
doors

At least Registration only happens twice in a school year.

Phone System

Well, it nearly registration time here and the 3Com NBX Phone system
took a day off today. About 2pm the phone system bit the dust and I
am still here trying to give it geeky CPR. So far its not working.

We have a replacement unit on the way, but it won't be here 'till
tomorrow morning at the earliest. So if we get on the ball well
enough and with a little luck thrown in, we might have the phone
system back up and running again by tomorrow afternoon. Thus a total
of something like 24+ hours with out phone service right before
registration. Arg.

Last year this time we were running around like chickens with our
heads chopped off trying to get this system in place since lightning
took out our old system just a few days before registration. I am
really hoping that this does not become a yearly chore.

LAN party was good

Saturday night we had our LAN party. Had a good time at Jonathan's
house (thanks Jonathan) We had quite a few people there this time and
even had an extra computer.

Pamela, Jennifer, Linda, Lori and another girl who's name I can't
remember, but should, came. I don't think that Pam enjoyed her self
much, but the others seemed to.

Darn AD part 2

I have managed to get the Xserve joined to the AD correctly, but it
still isn't working like we want it too. All of the user accounts
show up and can log into the machine, but their mail is disabled and
changing it does not stick. Apple Tech Support is going to require
that we pay for the expensive Cross-Platform support to work out the
bugs.

I think that we are going to scrap this idea and just go with a LDAP
bind on a Debian box, not as slick or as pretty as the XServe but
will do the job with (hopefully) less headache.

Update on Larry

I got an email from Larry the other day. It didn't really say anything.

Mom got a letter from Larry in the mail on Monday. It actually said
something.

Larry is out at the school where he is supposed to be, the A/C has
been fixed, and his fellow SM just arrived.

Larry is teaching 5th - 8th grades in all subjects. From what I
understand he is just getting over an ear infection.

I have set up a blog for Larry to post too, The link is on the Right
side of your screen, over there -->

Darn Active Directory

With Registration fast approaching, I have been attempting to get one
of our XServes running for the email solution. So far I have
succeeded in getting the server running but not making it work in the
fashion that we want.

[warning the following is bordering on geekyness]
I am attempting to make an email server out of a Mac XServe for all
of the user accounts on the Windows Active Directory, and so far its
not working really well.
[/geekyness]

I am going to attempt to reinstall it today and see what that does,
but if that doesn't work I am going to run in circles screaming and
pulling out my hair.

What happened today in history

I am sitting bored here at work so I looked up what all happened today.

  • Napoleon Bonapart was born today in 1769
  • India became independent in 1947
  • Congo became independent in 1960
  • South Korea was established in 1948
  • The Panama Canal opened in 1914
and the most interesting piece of history (in my opinion)
  • World War Two ended 60 years ago today

Before you start thinking that I am some sort of history buff, why
don't you go download this widget from Apple

Got His Guitar!!

Good news, Larry did get his guitar. The airline managed to not get
his guitar on the flight from Hawaii to Majuro and we were a little
worried that he may not get it at all. The guitar came in yesterday
and now he is on his way up to Laura where he will be staying.

Keep him in your prayers.

Update on the bro

We received an email from Larry yesterday. From the sounds of it he
is doing well. Larry will be teaching at the school at Laura on the
northern part of Majuro.

He will be able to have email access at the school so we should be
able to keep up-to-date with him.

I will attempt to keep you all updated on larry.

Trip to Austin

I spent the weekend (well Friday evening and Saturday) on the North
side of Austin, TX. I had a really good time.

I rode the motorcycle down the back route and had an absolute blast!!
It took me 4hrs and the speed limit plus a little ;) and still
managed to get 45mpg on the bike. These things are great.

Saturday morning I went to the Georgetown SDA church and had a great
time with those wonderful people.

Saturday afternoon Rachel and I rode the motorcycle out to Marble
Falls. (FM 1431 is a great road for motorcycle in case you were
wondering.)

Rachel had never been on a motorcycle before but said that she
enjoyed it. We made it back in one piece much to the relief of her
mom. It rained on us a little but I am not sugar and therefore don't
melt. Apparently Rachel didn't get very wet as she didn't melt
either. :)

All in all I/we had a good weekend!

LAN Party!!

Today we had a LAN party. It was great, my team never lost a team
match!!

Have a Mac? Want to play with us? let me know via email.

And He's Gone

Friday morning my family got up and took my brother to the Airport.
He left on the first leg of his trip to Majuro, Marshall Islands
where he will be spending the next 10 months as a Student Missionary.

We are still not sure which school he will be at (there are two on
the island) but I will post info once we find out.

Please keep him in your prayers

...waiting on parts...

Well, I took the VFR apart last night and changed the oil and took
the tank off and checked the fuel filter. Its clogged. So I called
and nobody has the fuel filter in stock; have to order it and then i
get to wait for nearly a week before i can get it. So much for riding
this weekend.

Wednesday, July 27, 2005

darn bike

Well, the bike acted up on the way home yesterday again. I don't know if it is electrical or not, at this point I am hoping it is my fuel filter instead of something expensive.

Oh, yeah a pic of the bike

If you are female then you might find this offensive, and hopefully
informative.

Motorcycle issues

Well on my way back from lunch today my motorcycle started acting up
on me. After some deep thinking I have decided it is electrical
issues. (duh!) Now I just hope it doesn't cost a lot to repair. Or
take long, as I want to ride it this weekend.

a little about me

Who am I? well I am obviously a tall Texan (God Gless Texas!) but besides that I am a Intern at a private university in the IT department. (For those of you who don't know what IT is, its Information Technology, we are the computer geeks who live in dark, damp spaces and stare at computers all day)

Actually I am a very active individual. I have been involved in gymnastics (power tumbeling and acrobatics) since the age of 9, and have since progressed to and assistant coaching position with a local gym team.

Along with gymnastics I enjoy riding my motorcycle, wakeboarding, play computer games (I am a certified geek after all,) camping, backpacking, Pathfinders (think Boyscouts, Girlscouts in one club through my church) just to name a few.

my first blog

Well as you can see this is my first blog post. And as you can probably guess I have nothing better to do then create my own blog.

In theory one could come here and keep up with what it is that I have been up to but that would require that I keep this blog up-to-date and that might be a problem.

But that being said I will do what I can to keep this up-to-date
